Theodore Perl, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and is fellowship-trained in corneal and refractive surgery. He earned his degree from Chicago Medical School. After his residency at Rush University Medical Center and graduate training from Harvard Medical School, he completed a two-year fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Perl specializes in the treatment of external eye diseases, LASIK, cataract surgery, and corneal transplant surgery. He has performed more than 15,000 corneal and refractive procedures. Dr. Perl was named as one of New Jersey’s “Top Docs” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine and a “Star Surgeon” by VISX Incorporated (AMO), placing him in the top 5% of LASIK surgeons nationwide. Because of his extensive experience, Dr. Perl also is a certified clinical trainer and proctor by AMO. As a proctor, he teaches and certifies other surgeons on the LASIK procedure.
In his personal life, Dr. Perl has a passion for aviation. He has over 45 years of experience as a private pilot and is qualified as an instrument-rated, multi-engine, commercial pilot. He flies a Cessna Citation CJ3 jet; and he is also a member of Angel Flight Southeast (AFSE), a nonprofit organization of more than 1,000 volunteer pilots who utilize their own aircraft. Dr. Perl enjoys using his plane for charitable purposes, such as delivering medical supplies to areas damaged by hurricanes.
